Transfigurations: From Jazz to Wagner celebrates the culmination of four years of study at The Juilliard School through a program of original compositions and concert arrangements by composer and flutist Nikka Gershman. Spanning the jazz lyricism of Claude Bolling, the melancholy of Alessandro Marcello, the virtuosity of Franz Liszt, and the mystical realm of Richard Wagner — concluding with the world premiere of Gershman’s Tristan und Isolde Concert Suite — the program reimagines iconic works through new instrumental lenses, alongside Gershman’s own compositional voice in the Atonement Sonata. In collaboration with outstanding Juilliard musicians, the evening explores intimacy and transfiguration across centuries of musical tradition.
