All-Shostakovich at Steinway Hall

  • Steinway Hall 1133 6th Avenue New York, New York, 10036 United States (map)

Listeners are invited to attend a concert dedicated to the timeless music of Dmitri Shostakovich, taking place at the iconic Steinway Hall in New York. The program features two transcriptions by Nikka Gershman: Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2, alongside his String Quartet No. 8. Gershman’s arrangement of the Quartet will be receiving its world premiere, in which the flute replaces the first violin part, creating a new resonating voice. In the Quartet, Shostakovich deliberately quotes a musical motive from the Trio (borrowed from Eastern European Jewish folk music), uniting these works in a program that simultaneously grieves oppression and celebrates freedom.

The Music Society of the Future is especially grateful to Steinway Artists Shai Wosner and Jerome Lowenthal for their musical guidance, and to Regina Davidoff, Senior Piano Consultant at Steinway, for presenting this program.
